Understand your right to cancel and what happens if you ask us to start early.
When a cooling-off right applies
For a domestic service contract covered by the Consumer Contracts Regulations and agreed remotely through an organised distance-selling scheme, or away from business premises such as in your home, you can normally cancel without giving a reason until the end of 14 days after the day the contract is made.
The precise rights depend on how the agreement is made and what it includes. For example, not every quote accepted later after a home visit is legally a distance or off-premises contract. An on-premises contract does not automatically have the same change-of-mind right. Your booking confirmation must explain the applicable position; we will not assume a right is absent without checking.
This notice is drafted for decorating services. If a contract includes a separate sale of goods, the correct goods cancellation and return information must also be supplied. It must not be treated automatically as a service-only contract. Missing legally required cancellation information can extend the cancellation period.
How to cancel

The proprietor’s full legal name will also be included in the completed booking documents. Give a clear statement that you wish to cancel and enough information to identify your booking. You may use the form below but do not have to. Sending your cancellation before the deadline is sufficient; keep a copy or proof of sending.
The contact details below can be used to tell us you are cancelling. The website enquiry builder does not itself send a cancellation or a booking request. Keep a copy of your message or proof of posting.
Refunds during a statutory cooling-off period
If you cancel a covered service contract before it starts, payments for that service will be refunded. If you expressly requested an early start and the required information was supplied, a proportionate amount for services actually provided before you communicated cancellation may be payable. It is calculated against the agreed price, or market value if the price is excessive.
We will refund the remainder without undue delay and within 14 days after being told you are cancelling, using the same payment method unless you expressly agree otherwise, without a refund fee. We will explain any lawful deduction. We cannot charge for early services where the law prevents it because the required request or cancellation information was missing.
Starting work within the 14 days
An early start is optional and must be separately requested. A request to start does not immediately remove the cancellation right. For a service contract, the right is lost on full performance within the period only where you expressly requested the early start and acknowledged in advance that the right would be lost once the service was fully performed.
Use a separate written request identifying the quotation, the requested start date and the following points. It must not be pre-ticked, bundled with marketing permission or assumed from accepting the main terms.
I expressly request that the decorating services in quotation [reference] start on [date], within my cancellation period. I understand that, if I cancel after work has begun, I may have to pay a proportionate amount for services supplied up to cancellation, provided the legal requirements have been met. I acknowledge that my statutory right to cancel the service contract will end once the service has been fully performed, following my express request and this acknowledgement.
Record the customer’s name, date and affirmative response. For an off-premises contract, obtain this on paper or another durable medium. Give the customer a copy with their contract confirmation.

Other cancellations & complaints
Outside a statutory cooling-off right, cancellation is handled under the fair-loss provisions of our terms and conditions. Deposits are not automatically forfeited. Your remedies for faulty work or our breach are separate from changing your mind and are not restricted by a cooling-off deadline.
